Stargate Atlantis:

It has happened.  The fifteen-year-old Stargate television franchise has come to end with the cancellation of Stargate Atlantis.  Many gaters like myself saw this coming, when they kept changing the cast to what I surmise as possible attempts to raise ratings.  Doing so, it made it harder for the regular audience to latch onto any character in particular.  Even Star Trek knew better.

"We're excited to tell Atlantis stories on a bigger canvas. The successes of the two original Stargate DTV movies The Ark of Truth and Continuum have shown us the opportunities that the movie format offers. We have plans for both SG-1 and Atlantis to remain vital as we expand the franchise," said Brad Wright and Robert C. Cooper, co-creators of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis.

"We share in the producers' enthusiasm to move forward in this direction and we look forward to a strong and continued relationship on Stargate Atlantis in this new format," said Thomas Vitale, Senior Vice President Programming & Original Movies.

What is the total fate of the franchise?  Well, scoot on over to the breaking news below.

Stargate Universe:

Aintitcool reports that Sci Fi has greenlit a new series called Stargate Universe.  Here is how the Sci Fi summarizes the series.

After unlocking the mystery of the Stargate's ninth chevron, a team of explorers travels to an unmanned starship called the Destiny, launched by The Ancients at the height of their civilization as a grand experiment set in motion, but never completed.
What starts as a simple reconnaissance turns into a never ending mission, as the Stargate Universe crew discovers the ship is unable to return to Earth, and they must now fend for themselves aboard the Destiny.
The crew will travel to the far reaches of the universe, connecting with each of the previously launched Stargates, thus fulfilling the Destiny's original mission.
Challenges will arise though as the ship comes into range of Stargates placed centuries ahead of the Destiny, but only for a brief period of time before carrying on with its pre-programmed navigational schedule. If someone is left behind, there is no way to go back for them, adding to the drama of encountering new races, enemies and adventures.

Hmm…As a fan, I thought about a series involving the Prometheus earth ship, but this might actually do some good, if they are able to bring in some old favorites in as well.

Smallville:

Tons of new information has leaked online about the upcoming season for Smallville.  Above is a picture from TV guide, via Krypton site, where they show the current Justice League, as it will be presented in the series.  Hey, what happened to Cyborg?

Canadian hottie Charlotte Sullivan will be playing the character of Maxima.  Maxima is an alien princess that arrives on earth looking for a mate, and finds Clark as the perfect match.  Clark does not share her feelings, and thus begins a love/hate relationship.

Meanwhile, Michael Ausiello at TV guide gave some hints as to two new regular characters coming in this year.

Lex's possibly evil stand-in Tess has a connection to someone in Smallville. Hint: He's green and ripped and runs around with an arrow. Was that too easy?

Clark and Chloe find themselves on opposing sides when a serial killer starts wreaking havoc on Metroplis in this season's sixth episode. Clark suspects Davis/Doomsday is the culprit, but Chloe's having none of it. Strengthening Clark's resolve: D/D just so happens to black out whenever there's a new murder.

I just have the worst feeling about this season.
